Bedtime for asparagus

Spent a couple of hours clearing and chopping the mini forest of asparagus that we inherited with the plot. We seem to have been fortunate in inheriting a mature and productive bed, but it needed a little care before the winter really starts to bite. The chopped up bits of fern have now pretty much filled the compost bay, but they should rot down nicely. We mulched the bed with some wood chip (which is free for anyone to use on our allotments) and it really looks quite tidy now, though we say so ourselves! The onion sets are also starting to show progress, so all in all it feels like we are starting to get on top of the work! Still allotofweeds to go though, as you can see from the pictures showing the “paths” aka weed factories around the beds…
